HARVEST FEST 2022 – FEEDING THE UNDERSERVED OF FLINT FOR THE HOLIDAYS
FLINT, MI – GenWEL United, an IRS tax-exempt 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, will be hosting GenWel United Flint Harvest Fest 2022, a food give-a-way on November 5, 2022, from 12:30 PM – 2:30PM or while food is available, at Hallwood Plaza, 4813 Clio Rd., Flint, MI. GenWEL United is purchasing food from the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan to distribute food to the community in preparation for the Holiday Season. Sponsors of this event are The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Flint and the CRIM, Flint Community Education Initiative.
GenWEL United’s mission is to create an equitable environment through knowledge, resources, & opportunity. “Our goal of Harvest Fest 2022 is to provide food to families for a traditional holiday meal, who would not normally be able to afford one. Last year, we distributed food to over 200 families before the holiday season. We hope to double the number of families we help this year,” stated Edward Johnson, Founder and Chairman of GenWel United.
According to the UnitedWayGenesee.org, 60% of Black households in Michigan were unable to afford basic household essentials in their communities in 2019. In 2020, the median household income was $30,383 according to Data USA. This is a direct effect of public divestment in Flint. In addition, the residents of Flint have trouble accessing quality, nutritious food. This is a direct result of the lack of grocery stores in the community and the lack of fresh produce and wholesome food offerings at an affordable price. Therefore, GenWel United wants to help the people of Flint.
Volunteers, Sponsorship and Donations are needed. To make an impact in the community or for more information please contact GenWel United at inquiry@genwelunited.org or at (866)436-9351
